Ghana forms oversight committee for 2026 World Cup preparations

ACCRA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The government of Ghana on Wednesday appointed an 11-member ministerial oversight committee to guide preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah inaugurated the committee and instructed its members to ensure Ghana's investment and tourism potential are well showcased during the tournament.

The committee will be chaired by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and is tasked with providing strategic leadership and coordinating work across ministries as the Black Stars get ready for their fifth World Cup appearance.

It will also oversee the work of an already established technical working group and receive progress reports. Its responsibilities include resource mobilization, sponsorship development, fan engagement programs, and promoting Ghana's image internationally.

Ghana, which has competed at four FIFA World Cups, secured qualification for the 2026 tournament earlier this month.
