Syrias Ministry of Transport held extensive talks with a World Bank (WB) delegation in Damascus on the current state of the countrys transport sector and potential opportunities for development and investment aimed at revitalizing the sector, the ministry said in a statement.

Transport Minister Yarub Badr met with the visiting World Bank delegation, led by Ibrahim Dajani, Manager of the Transport Global Practice for the Middle East & North Africa Region. Badr highlighted the significant role the World Bank can play through both financial support and technical expertise to help modernize Syrias transport sector. He stressed that enhanced cooperation in road transport and digital infrastructure is vital for the countrys economic recovery.

During the meeting, the World Bank delegation was briefed on key ongoing and future projects designed to improve regional connectivity and expand domestic transport networks. Discussions focused on how to leverage the Banks expertise to implement these projects effectively, according to the statement.

Dajani expressed his pleasure at returning to Syria after more than 15 years since his last visit to address transport-related issues. He welcomed the ambitious plans presented by the ministry and underscored the strategic importance of the transport sector in promoting economic growth, industrial development, and regional connectivity, given Syrias geographic position.
