Xi offers condolences over death of former Algerian president

BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended condolences over the death of former Algerian President Liamine Zeroual.

In a message to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune dated Friday, Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, also offered sympathy to Zeroual's family as well as the Algerian government and people.

Depicting Zeroual as an outstanding leader of Algeria who made significant contributions to the country's stability and development, Xi said that during his lifetime, Zeroual remained committed to friendship with China, dedicated himself to consolidating friendship and mutual trust between the two countries, and promoted bilateral exchanges and cooperation across various fields.

Zeroual's death is a loss for the Algerian people, and the Chinese people have also lost a good friend, he said.

Xi said that he attaches great importance to the growth of China-Algeria relations and is willing to work with President Tebboune to push for new and greater development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries.
