BERLIN, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Substitute Deniz Undav scored a late goal as Germany secured a 2-1 win over Ghana in a friendly on Monday.
Julian Nagelsmann's side controlled possession early but lacked efficiency in front of goal. Nick Woltemade failed to convert from close range in the opening minutes, while Florian Wirtz struck the outside of the post soon after.
Coming off a 5-1 defeat to Austria on Friday, Ghana sat deep and withstood the pressure despite Germany enjoying around 75 percent possession.
The breakthrough came just before the interval when Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey handled the ball in the area and Kai Havertz converted the resulting penalty.
Ghana threatened early in the second half, with Antoine Semenyo seeing his effort denied by center back Nico Schlotterbeck, while Germany responded with Woltemade heading against the crossbar.
Ghana pulled level in the 70th minute when Derrick Kohn set up Abdul Fatawu for a composed finish.
Lennart Karl later missed a promising opportunity from close range, failing to restore Germany's advantage.
The decisive moment came in the 88th minute when Leon Goretzka's header found Undav, who controlled the ball and put it over the line from point-blank range.
Germany ended the international window with consecutive wins after edging Switzerland 4-3. It will face Finland and the United States in further friendlies before opening its World Cup campaign against Curacao on June 14.
"It was great for me to come on and get the winning goal. It really was a perfect evening to get the victory and score that decisive strike," said Undav. "Ghana have good players and we wanted to win this game, but we must be more efficient in front of goal."
