French Foreign Minister Jean-Nol Barrot on Monday called on the warring parties in Sudan to agree to a ceasefire and adhere to international humanitarian law to bring an end to what he described as a growing tragedy.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) quoted Barrot as saying that the situation in Sudan is witnessing an escalation in Darfur amid fears of grave atrocities against tens of thousands of innocent people.
A French Foreign Ministry spokesperson voiced Pariss strong condemnation of the atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of El Fasher in Darfur, urging that those responsible for these crimes be held accountable and brought to justice.
The spokesperson also referred to U.S.-led mediation efforts, which facilitated an agreement between several countries directly linked to the conflict, describing the development as an important first step.
Members of the United Nations Security Council had earlier strongly condemned the RSFs attack on El Fasher and its devastating impact on civilians, calling for all those responsible for violations to be held accountable.
